Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Getting started

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Demo: Limits & Save Transfer

At a glance

The free Welcome Version lets you create up to three Miis. Keep its save data on the console, then start the full game with the same user and accept the transfer prompt to continue your island.

What the Welcome Version includes

Download the free demo from the Nintendo Switch eShop or the official game page. It is also playable on Nintendo Switch 2.

The demo supports up to three Miis. Its main tutorial ends after Where & Wear opens and you resolve the clothing request. Progression is limited after that point: you cannot keep playing through confessions, marriage or babies in the demo.

A typical playthrough takes around 30 minutes, depending on how long you spend making Miis. That is an estimate, not a timed limit.

Continue your demo island in the full game

  1. Keep the demo’s save data on the console.
  2. Use the same console user who played the demo.
  3. Start the full version of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
  4. When the game detects the Welcome Version save, choose to carry over that progress.

This also works with the physical game. The important part is having the correct save data and user on the console; you do not have to launch a purchase from inside the demo.

Saves belong to individual console users. Two users’ islands cannot be merged.

The hamster costume reward

Finish the demo, including its closing previews, to receive the Hamster Costume reward. The outfit can also be obtained through normal play in the full game, so it is not exclusive to demo players.

If you already started a different island

Demo progress cannot simply be added to an existing full-game island. Reimporting may require deleting the full-game save, which loses that island’s progress.

Do not delete an island just to test whether a prompt appears. If you want to keep your current island, keep playing it; a demo transfer is a continuation of a save, not a way to combine two islands.
