Install an update
- Connect the console to the internet.
- Highlight the game on the HOME Menu without opening it.
- Press + or −. The installed version appears beneath the title.
- Select Software Update → Via the Internet.
- After installation, check the version in the same place.
The notes below cover the full game’s 1.0.4 update, released in North America on July 22, 2026. Updating keeps your save data.
What version 1.0.4 fixes
The update addresses several issues:
- Rare save-data corruption after using Island Builder that could prevent the next launch.
- Progression stopping or an error occurring after resolving a Mii’s problem.
- Incorrect posters at the clothing shop.
- Bias in which residents appeared on Ferris Wheel and news-station posters.
- Other adjustments to improve the playing experience.

Before using Local Play
Both players need the same game version. If the connection fails, check both consoles before trying again.
Version 1.0.3 also introduced restrictions on sending creations when the island or player name contains restricted text or numbers. Matching versions alone will not resolve an incompatible name. See the Mii sharing guide for the other requirements.
