How to Have a Baby in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

At a glance

Use a married couple, set Baby Settings to Allow and support a pink baby request when it appears. Keep both parents’ relationship healthy; requests can happen below Soulmates. Another couple must finish waiting for its baby before a new request can proceed.

Turn on babies

Open X → Settings → Game Settings → Baby Settings → Allow.

The parents must be married. Any gender combination of married Miis can have a baby.

Wait for a baby request

Keep both partners’ relationship healthy and respond positively when a pink baby request appears. Requests can happen below Soulmates; reaching that highest label is not the only next step.

Only one couple’s pending baby is handled at a time. Once you accept one request, other couples must wait until that baby is born before requesting their own.

If nothing happens, check:

  • You are playing the full game, not the Welcome Version.
  • The pair are married.
  • Baby Settings is set to Allow.
  • Another couple is not already waiting for a baby.
  • Both parents’ relationship is doing well.

There is no guaranteed number of days for the initial request. A travel ticket is not a guaranteed baby trigger.

Birth and growing up

After accepting the request, expect roughly one to two real-world days, rather than a precise hour-by-hour countdown.

When the birth notification appears, visit the parents’ home. You can choose the child’s gender, name and personality. A growth sequence brings the child to resident age; this is not the 3DS game’s six-day baby-care sequence.

Keeping the child adds them as a resident living with their parents. Choosing for them to leave removes them; they do not become a StreetPass traveller who sends regular letters home.

If the island fills up before the birth

A baby can still be born if you accepted the request before filling the island to 70 residents. Choosing to keep the child then requires you to make a slot available in Residents. The child can wait for room rather than becoming a permanent 71st resident.

That sequence does not guarantee an initial baby request when the island was already full. Plan a free slot when you can, and remember that removing an existing Mii costs money and loses their progress.

Waiting for a slot is different from choosing for the child to leave permanently.
